Gosset Street is situated adjacent the Jesus Hospital Estate conservation area in London’s East End. The buildings proportions and choice of materials reflect the Victorian houses within the conservation area. RMA were appointed from RIBA Stage D.
The facade can be seen as a series of apertures which reduces the scale and mass of the buildings. The inset balconies are faced with cedar cladding giving a soft feel to these exterior spaces. The two storey duplex units are easily identified and the 3 houses to the north also announce their presence as the building steps down. This articulation allows the building to be understood, giving a simplistic look to a complicated building.
The roof of the building contains an amenity space with a green roof garden. The amenity space contains benches and planters and provides stunning views of The City of London, The Docklands and the 2012 Olympic Site.
